It’s National Computer rant day. I made it up. Here’s why. I don’t do well with frustration. And technology in general has a high frustration level. I can usually get through computer problems and glitches with some teeth gnashing and stay sunny. Not this time.
Yesterday I turned on my computer to write to you and my Word program was gone. Yes, gone. Not hidden, not misplaced. Gone. Poof. Nothing. Nada. I still had the Office icon but no Word, no Excel, no Access, no PowerPoint, no Publisher.
Commence major Zain meltdown in 10,9,8,7….
When I tried to pull up a document, I was prompted to go choose an app. But there wasn’t any app that would open my files on my computer. I wasn’t just frustrated, I was p-i-s-s-e-d. I checked the three programs that monitor my computer for viruses and hackers and all said I was okay. No sign of intrusion. I checked the program files. No Office programs.
I checked my subscription to Office and sure enough, I paid for 2022 in March. I went to the internet and after a good half day of research I determined the only option was to reinstall Microsoft Office.
This might seem like no big deal to you. But I live in the land of internet that runs on a rope, candle wax and two tin cans.
I had no choice. I chose “download.” Microsoft happily popped up a jolly “Please wait this will only take a moment.” This was clearly a lie.
It took just short of an hour to download. On the positive side, I now have all the updated versions of Office and I’m able to access my former Word files. So I’m back. But what about you? If you’re frustrated and trying to move forward and craft a life, a career, a headspace or a retirement that makes you wake up singing, I’d love to help.
It’s what I do. It’s what coaching is all about. Whether it’s a couple of conversations or a whole program of accountability and planning, I’ll be there for you. Curious? Click this button! Work With Me
