When my daughter Dakota came to visit, we went for our traditional manicure, pedicure and lunch date. We’re not really girly girls but we do like having our toes and fingernails looking groomed and snazzy instead or snagged, bitten, broken and neglected: our usual sad state.
.
For those of you unaware, manicures and pedicures are the ultimate luxury. You start by picking a color(s) for toes and fingernails. Then you sit back in the massage chair, put your tired feet into the warm swirling water and relax and let the professionals take over. Talking is optional.
.
I’d decided the night before on my colors: a periwinkle blue for my toes and beige for the fingernails. Done. Dakota was undecided. She went through several different colors on the sample rings: Conservative red? Pink rose? Sparkle-y ivory? Orange? Pale yellow? Lavender?
.
Then more decisions: toes and fingernails the same color? Different? Multi-colors? Traditional polish? Gel? Dip? Thankfully we were the only customers there so the decision making process didn’t need to be rushed. I got on with the relaxing.
.
While the daughter was debating the merits of color, our feet were being tended to with TLC. These people are fast, efficient and professional. I’m ticklish so the scrubbing of the bottom of the foot is difficult for me. But it’s worth it. At last Dakota decided on a neon orange polish for both toes and fingernails. Because, as she said, “Nothing screams summer like neon color!”
.
After the toes were done and drying it was fingernail time. Fingernail polish lasts anywhere from 2-3 weeks depending on how hard you are on your fingernails and how willing you are to put up with the gap in color as your nails grow out. I use my nails as little screwdrivers. It doesn’t bode well for polish retention.
.
When we were done, you needed sunglasses to look at Dakota’s nails. It was great and she was totally right: That pulsing neon color said, “Let me slather on some sun lotion ‘cause my nails are screaming, “It’s still summer and you baby, look absolutely fabulous!”
