Every summer I wave at Mr. Jones when I see him outside tending his tomatoes. He’s the king of tomatoes, corn, beans, potatoes, zucchini and lettuce. I wave at him and he always waves back.
Mr. Jones loves his downhome veggie patch. And I love Mr. Jones because he’s doing exactly what makes him happy. Not a lot of people do exactly what they love doing. Isn’t that weird? Why not?
It’s hard work but Mr. Jones would rather be there, fighting off the squash beetles, deer and raccoons than doing something he doesn’t really care about. Mr. Jones is an earth happy man.
Doing what you love doesn’t have to be world changing. It just has to rock your very own garden full of joy and wonder so that you wouldn’t trade in your feelings of contentment for a $2 million lottery win.
Once you start doing what you love on a regular basis, your life begins to change and amazing things happen, things that make you want to sing in the shower, that bring you laughter and joy and a fit of the giggles. Feelings of intense well-being and love, compassion and understanding of the trials that other people who AREN’T doing what they love are going through.
Here are the things I do that make me happy.
I…
Front the O2R Blues Band as the singer;
Hit the gym or a dance class hard 5 days a week;
Follow my actress daughter around as #1 groupie Momma to catch her gigs;
Go sailing whenever I can get someone to take me. Love the wind in the sails;
Head out with my fabulous husband Ken to hear jazz, blues, catch a musical (like Book of Mormon: wow!) watch Indy car races, catch a golf tournament;
Travel, meet new people and learn about other cultures, foods and architecture;
Get rowdy with my equally hysterical friends, laughing until it hurts.
And I love being a coach and seeing people make transformations and accomplish things they never dreamed they could.
Let’s talk about what you want to do in your life. Crafting a master plan to reach your happiness goal is a happy place for me too. We should work together, don’t you think?
